Dairy Value Chain at a Glance
The Kenyan dairy industry is among the top in Africa and is the leading in East Africa. The industry is on an upward trajectory with an estimated growth rate of 3% - 4 % per year.
The dairy value chain is an important socioeconomic enterprise contributing 4.5 %, 14% and 44% to the national, agriculture and livestock sub-sectors GDP respectively. The sector provides livelihood to an estimated 1.8 million smallholder households, employing an estimate of 750,000 persons directly and 500,000 indirectly.
Currently the total milk production in the sector is estimated to be 4.6 Billion liters per year.
